Talent manager sentenced to probation

A Studio City-based talent manager has pleaded no contest to operating an advance-fee talent service that placed several minors at risk of harm and another count of failing to file a required $50,000 bond with the state.The Los Angeles City Attorney's announced Friday that Nicholas Roses, 21, had been sentenced by Judge Yolanda Orozco to three years probation. He was also ordered to have no involvement with any talent training service, talent counseling service or talent listing service anywhere, including outside California and to not be involved with any "camp", education facility or daycare facility attended by anyone under the age of 18.He was also ordered to serve 90 days in jail or perform 45 days of community labor, to pay $10,700 in total restitution to the three complaining witnesses and to pay $2,000 investigative costs to the City Attorney's Office. "Failure to abide by the terms of probation will result in Roses being sentenced to at least six months of jail," the City Attorney's office said.Roses was charged in April with nine criminal counts as a result of several parents who complained about Roses' business practices. The parents, all Ohio residents, asserted that they had met Roses at an Ohio Talent agency workshop and that he offered to manage their children -- ages 6, 13, and 14 at the time -- and advised the parents to relocate to Los Angeles and sign up for his summer entertainment industry "boot camp".Each of the parents paid approximately $3,000 per child to attend a week-long "boot camp" in Los Angeles and complained the event was disorganized with participants ranging in age from six to 62. They alleged that Roses failed to provide adequate seating, sufficient food, water and breaks during the 12-hour program and that many of the children became ill -- including one girl who developed swollen lungs, hives and rashes.Roses had been accused of violating the Krekorian Talent Scam Prevention Act of 2009, which specifically prohibits talent services from engaging in the business of talent representation and charging money upfront for the promise of securing jobs. It also requires such services to post a $50,000 bond with the state and calls for use of unambiguous language in contracts with aspiring performers.Moves comes a year after the city warned casting workshops and talent services that it would enforce tightened state rules barring "pay to audition" scams, with city attorney Carmen Trutanich sending out about 200 letters to notify the operators that the Krekorian Act had gone into effect. Dollhouse actor Harry Lennix joins Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel

*Harry Lennix has joined the cast of _Man Of Steel_, according to a
report by Variety.*

The actor, best known for his roles in _The Matrix_ sequels and Joss
Whedon's TV show Dollhouse, has signed on to play General Swanwick, a
high-ranking military officer in Zack Snyder's Superman reboot.

Lennix has the kind of don't-mess-with-me glare and growly tones that
would make him a perfect fit for this kind of role.

It's also pleasing, from an action perspective, to see that the
military will be getting involved with Supes' latest adventure.

Snyder has already assembled quite the cast for _Man Of Steel_, with
Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon
and Russell Crowe among the names that have signed on.

The reboot is produced by Christopher Nolan, who came up with the
story alongside screenwriter David S. Goyer (_Batman Begins_).

_Man Of Steel_ is expected to arrive in cinemas in December 2012.

So, what's the recent hold-up on the Halo movie production?

I checked imdb's website a few months ago, and I'm sure the scheduled
release was 2012. I go to check the movie's status today, and now the
scheduled year is (????). What's with all the delay? The only reason
I could find is that Microsoft doesn't want the movie to give the
franchise a bad rep, which is understandable. But I don't see that
happening when Peter Jackson is in charge of pretty much everything.

Has anyone heard any news as to why this movie is delayed again?

Robert Rodriguez' Spy Kids 4 gets another trailer

*Another trailer for Robert Rodriguez' kid-friendly actioner _Spy Kids
4_ has shown up online.*

_Spy Kids 4: All The Time In The World_ relaunches the franchise with
a new set of kids, and Jessica Alba as the undercover mother.

Frankly, this trailer plays directly to its intended audience, so it's
not even worth us moaning about the avalanche of so-so CGI, the
irritating animal sidekick, and Jeremy Piven's limp villain.

The trailer even breaks for an odd aside about the movie's '4D' -
you'll get a scratch 'n' sniff card in the cinema so that your sense
of smell doesn't feel left out amid the onslaught.

That said, Rodriguez looks to be directing with his trademark energy,
and the sight of Alba in a leather catsuit will provide considerable
consolation to any dads dragged to this on a Saturday morning.

What's a good guitar under $300, for playing music like Avenged Sevenfold and some Nirvana?
